First, you will want to purchase a WiFi Dongle, a handy tool for computers that don't have built-in WiFi capabilities. A WiFi dongle is a small piece of equipment that connects to your computer, usually via a USB port, and allows your computer to connect to a WiFi network.
How to Use:
- Insert the WiFi dongle into a USB port on your computer. Most dongles are plug-and-play, which means they will start working as soon as you plug them in.
- Install the necessary drivers. Some WiFi dongles might require you to install drivers before you can use them. These drivers should come with the dongle, either on a USB or as a download link in the user manual.
- Enable the hotspot or MiFi device: For a MiFi device, this usually involves pressing a power button. For a hotspot, you'll need to go into your smartphone's settings and turn on the hotspot feature. You might also need to configure the hotspot settings, such as the network name and password.
- Connect your computer to the device: On your computer, open up the list of available WiFi networks and select the network that matches the hotspot or MiFi device. Enter the password if necessary.
- Verify your connection: After you've connected your computer to the MiFi device or mobile hotspot, check if you can now access the internet. Open your web browser and try visiting a website to confirm.
- Manage your data usage: Since MiFi devices and mobile hotspots use cellular data, it's important to keep an eye on your data usage and be mindful of your data allowed amount according to your provider plan.
- Turn off the hotspot or MiFi device when not in use: To conserve your data and battery life, remember to turn off the hotspot or MiFi device when you're not using it.
