For a cloud-based Dental Practice Management System (PMS) like Archy, with image uploading capabilities, the recommended internet speed requirements will depend on factors such as the number of users, image sizes, and the overall volume of data being transferred. Below are the specific guidelines:
Minimum Internet Speed Requirements for Archy:
-
Download Speed:
- Minimum: 15 Mbps – This is the baseline for Archy to function smoothly without noticeable lag.
- Recommended: 30 Mbps – If multiple users are accessing Archy or large images are being uploaded/downloaded, a higher download speed will prevent delays.
-
Upload Speed:
- Minimum: 10 Mbps – This ensures that smaller image files, such as x-rays or intraoral scans, can be uploaded to Archy without significant delays.
- Recommended: 15-20 Mbps – This allows for faster image uploads, especially when handling larger files, such as full-resolution x-rays or detailed scans.
-
Ping (Latency):
- Ideally, you should aim for a ping below 50 ms. A lower latency ensures smooth interaction with Archy, allowing for quick access to patient data and images without delay.
-
Bandwidth Consideration for Multiple Users:
- If you have several users accessing Archy and uploading images simultaneously, you may need a higher internet speed (e.g., 75-150 Mbps) to maintain optimal performance. More bandwidth ensures smooth operation for all users, preventing lag or interruptions when uploading or accessing data.
Other Considerations:
- Image Size: Large image files, such as full-resolution x-rays, Pano Images, and detailed dental images, can require more bandwidth and longer upload times. Dental imaging software exclusively works on Windows machines and not Mac or ChromeOS.
- Wi-Fi vs. Wired: A wired connection (Ethernet) will generally provide more reliable and faster speeds compared to Wi-Fi, ensuring smoother performance in Archy.
- Anti-virus: We do not advise using the following 3 anti-virus programs as they interfere with imaging. They are AVG, Avast & Macafee.
Prerequisites:
Archy works best on Windows 11 and above. While our software works on Mac and Chromebook machines, dental imaging software does not. We also do not officially support Microsoft Edge.
Archy is primarily designed for desktop use, some users have successfully accessed it on iPads via Google Chrome. However, please note that we do not provide support for mobile devices at this time. For the best experience, we recommend using Archy on a desktop or laptop.
For smooth and efficient operation of Archy, a 30 Mbps download speed and 15-20Mbps upload speed should be sufficient for most small to medium-sized dental practices. However, for larger practices with high volumes of data transfer and simultaneous users, speeds of 50 Mbps or higher will provide optimal performance.
Hardware
| Component | Minimum / Baseline For Imaging |
| Operating System |
Windows 11 Pro (64-bit) Note: Windows 7 & Windows 10 are no longer HIPAA compliant and should not be used. ChromeOS and MacOS do not work. |
| CPU / Processor | Intel Core i5 (9th Gen or newer) or AMD Ryzen 5 equivalent. |
| RAM | 8 GB minimum. |
| Storage | 256 GB SSD (recommended over HDD). |
| Graphics | Integrated graphics are sufficient for 2D sensor and pano images. |
| Display / Monitor | 1920×1080 resolution (Full HD) monitor with good brightness and contrast. |
| Ports / Interface | USB 3.0 ports (or higher) for sensors/pano connections. Ethernet port for networking. |
