Adding ICD Codes to a Procedure

ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) codes are essentially diagnosis codes. Dental claims increasingly require ICD-10 diagnosis codes, particularly when procedures are linked to medical conditions. The specific requirements and deadlines vary by payer and state.

This article will guide you through the process of adding International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes to a procedure. 

Step 1: Navigate to the procedure you want to add an ICD code to.

Step 2: Click on Edit.

Step 3: Look for the ICD code option.

Step 4: Select up to four ICD codes. The system recommends certain codes for the procedure, but you're free to choose any. If you're looking for a specific code, use the search box.

Step 5: After selecting the codes, click Save.

The selected codes will now appear on the procedure in the patient's chart. 

Step 6: Once the appointment is completed, the system automatically drafts a claim with these ICD codes. 

The example below shows a claim with ICD codes in Box 34A, diagnosis codes in Box 29A, and the mapping for each diagnosis code for each procedure (EXAMPLE ONLY).
