In this article, you will learn how to create multiple claims for the same date of service and same ordinal (primary, secondary, etc.).
Note: The ordinal is the order in which claims are sent, such as primary or secondary claims.
If you have an appointment with more than ten procedures, you will need to break them down into two separate claims to send, since insurance claims can only have up to ten procedures listed. Start by going to the patient's Claims.
Double-click the claim you need to separate.
Uncheck only the procedures you need to move to a separate claim.
You can submit this portion, or close the claim and save it as a draft.
From the patient's claim center, click + Claim.
Select the appointment you need to create the second claim for.
Note: If procedures were already sent or on another claim, they will show with a checkmark next to them, and the greyed-out procedures are the ones you can still attach.
Select the Billing Provider.
Select the Insurance Carrier.
Click Create Claim.
Note: We will show a warning in the blue letting you know there is already a primary claim and only unsubmitted procedures will be available.
You will see on the new claim, only the unsubmitted procedures are selected automatically on this new claim.
Click Submit or the X to close the claim and save it as a draft.
You now have 2 primary claims for this appointment, which includes all the procedures between both claims.
