Processing EOB - Secondary Insurance

This article will guide you through the process of processing an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) for a secondary insurance.

Consider including an estimate of what you think a patient's secondary insurance will pay to display on a treatment plan and modify the amount the estimated amount a patient owes. To do this, you can follow these steps.

Once you receive an EOB from the secondary insurance, navigate to your claim center.

Locate your secondary claim and click on the Process EOB button.

Enter the Total Insurance Payment.

Scan, upload, or drag and drop your file into the EOB section.

Check that your EOB is attached at the bottom of the page.

Click Next.

Select the drop-down menu to start editing the claim.

Start with entering the Insurance payment portion, exactly how it reads on the EOB.

Update the Patient Responsibility and Deductible columns, if necessary.

Click Verified and Reviewed.

Ensure that your Insurance Total Payment matches what you've posted on the claim.

Click Next.

Remember, once you post this payment, you won't be able to change which claims are associated with this payment. Make sure all claims are attached to this EOB in the previous screen.

Choose your payment method. This could be an electronic funds transfer, a check, a virtual credit card processed through Archy, or a virtual credit card processed through a third party.

Enter all your payment details and click Finalize.

When processing the EOB, update the deductible, patient's responsibility, and the insurance pay. The patient's responsibility added on the secondary claim will be the final amount the patient owes after the secondary insurance has paid. This final amount will be reflected in the patient's ledger.
